Not every recognition begins with something new

Not every recognition begins with something new

The first warm rain after a long dry spell has a smell most of us recognize instantly.

It rises off hot pavement, dry soil, cracked earth.

Sharp.

Mineral.

Unmistakable.

We don't need to be told what it is.

We already know it when it arrives.

For years, that might be all it is to us.

A smell that appears in certain weather.

Something we notice, enjoy for a moment, and forget.

Then, somewhere along the way, someone names it for us.

A person we're talking with mentions it, almost in passing — that the smell has a word.

Petrichor.

We don't need convincing.

We already knew exactly what they meant before they said the word.

None of this creates the experience.

We already had it.

What changes is what we do with it.

The next time rain begins after a dry spell, we don't just smell it.

We stop on the porch a little longer than we used to.

The information didn't give us the experience. It gave us a reason to look at it again.

Water can work this way too.

We may have experienced water somewhere that stayed with us.

A glass of water that tasted particularly fresh.

A shower that felt unusually smooth or soft.

Water that felt different on our skin or hair.

A swim in water we particularly enjoyed.

We may not have had a reason to think much about it at the time.

We simply experienced it.

Then, somewhere along the way, we come across another consideration.

How water moves.

We already know what moving water looks like in nature.

A spring.

A mountain creek.

Water moving over rock and around stone.

Rain gathering and finding its way through the landscape.

We may have seen water move this way hundreds of times without giving it much thought.

Learning about natural movement support doesn't create the water experiences we already had.

It gives us another way to look at them.

Aqua Life Force is the term ALISIOU uses for the natural expression of water when movement is supported — language for qualities people often recognize in naturally moving water.

And that may give us another reason to consider the water we experience every day.

Not only what is in it.

Or what has been removed from it.

But how it moves.

Natural movement support allows that consideration to become part of our own water environment — in the water we drink, shower in, and live with throughout the home, pool, or spa.

And we can experience for ourselves what it may mean for how water feels and behaves.
